what operating systems are the laps using and make sure your using the correct com port

Hi All
Have a small question , with the Det3 it mentions to earth all the unused inputs.
Does this include pull-up's
Also can the positive & ground be taken from any feed (positive being live on key turn) or does it have to come direct from the ecu
