EMU Black vs Silver versions, what is the difference?

Post by oneten » Tue Apr 26, 2016 3:12 pm

Hi Guys,

I have been offered an EMU black version, which looks different to the Silver version we normally get here in Australia. My understanding is that the Black version is originally a USA sold model.

Is there any actual difference between the black and silver models besides the unit colour? I do not want to buy it to find I cannot use it for any reason. I cant imagine what would be different as my current silver is english...

Thanks

Silver version will not work with US version of windows.

The hardware / software is the same. The black one are exclusively to US market

I'm in US, have a silver one and have tuned several black ones and my silver one seems to work the same. :?: :?:

Early versions were silver, and as far as I know usable in any country. I think we tuned/sold about 20-25 that are silver, before Wholesale Horsepower became the US Distributor, and decided they should be black, and US Market only.
I think I have seem some that are black and NOT US Market, but all the US Market Black EMU's will have a Wholesale Horsepower "WHP" logo on them.

Thanks for the responses guys. This is somewhat confusing as to whether this is just a distribution rights thing or if the Black will actually be incompatible on Australian version of windows.
I do not want to buy this second hand EMU Black if it will not work on Aus windows (en-AU or en-GB).

I already have a silver version of the EMU, purchased from RHD (Aus Distributor) and it works fine on my version of windows here in Australia. I assume the difference is in the language pack installed with windows.

To be specific, the Australian version of window is somewhere between UK & US, our spelling is the same as the UK but our keyboard layout is US. We have had an Australian localized versions of windows (en-AU) since Win 7 IIRC, but prior to this our of windows was en-GB, and still is technically en-GB. I guess this explains why the EMU Silver is sold in Australia.

While I realize the EMU Black is intended for en-US versions of windows, does that mean the EMU Black will or won't work on an Australian PC? (en-GB or en-AU language versions of windows).

It would be safe for you buy from your local dealer. If you have any issues (even with windows version) your local dealer will help you to solve it.

Yes normally I would, but this EMU Black is a second hand unit and was cheap enough hence why I was asking the questions.

Its OK I think I will pass it up this time, dont want to be stuck with it if I end up having problems.

Our goal is to offer customers the best support possible, and to ensure that our dealers can make a fair profit and offer real support to their customers. Nobody wins if the units are sold at cost. That's already being done by several other brands and it shows in the lack of support and customer dissatisfaction.
