AFR Rules

Post by pepifebles » Thu May 05, 2016 8:30 pm

II'm modifying my Ve fuel map trying get afr at 11.8/12.0. Always have thought that AFR leaner than possible in all rpm range, best performance. Recently have read, (at least in 3sgte engine) that higher afr=more peak power at high rpm, but richer mixture at low rpm (11.2/11.5)= more torque. Is this true? Do I continue with my idea of 11.8 / 12 at full boost, or enrich more torque area?

*The more I learn the more fun I think emu ;)

There is a wide afr window that any engine will make the same power, usually this window is 1 point afr, for example 12.5 to 13.5:1 for an n/a engine. Since in this window the engine will make the same power, you choose the low side of this window, as more fuel is cooling the combustion chamber better, you have more headroom for errors, and you are making sure no cylinders run very lean, as intake manifolds, especially side feed ones, have discrepancies between the cylinders. The power will come from setting the ingition advance right, the afr just has to be in the window the engine needs. Generally very low rpm require not more but less fuel, leaner afr.

what do you mean low RPM? I think that 11.2 at low rpm is too rich , when you have full boost?
