EMU damaged :-( what now....?

Post by bmwmaster » Tue Aug 02, 2016 8:45 am

Hi guys,

after a long research i found out that my ign. output 1 is damaged.
My engine runned very weak and stutters in the past and i searched for the error with a lot of effort (changed injectors, looked for knock, switched back from wasted spark to distributor an so on).
The problem was most feelable by reving it up slowely and with just light load. It didn,t want to pull and had little breaks while reving up which didn,t slow down the car alot, just it pulls less.

But at the end by changing from ign. output 1 to ign output 6 the engine runns so much better and stronger.

BUT!!! still while reving it up hardly I can see like smal steps in rev range on rpm meter.......with the damaged output i saw steps and felt also slow down and stutter... now just see. Im not sure if the other outputs are 100% ok......can i check it somehow? Maybe iIm loosing still some sparks.............The strange thing is that it did work and so it is not easy to find the error.

How can I be sure that the other output istn't also damaged a little just not so strong?
Scope and everything else looks good. I think i grilled the output 1 in the past by choosing the wrong ignition setting (with witout amplifier). At this time coil and emu were both hot.

Send it back to ECUMaster for testing and repairs, or test the outputs yourself using the "output test" function.

Hi,

here is a Log where i did some Testing. But in the log i can't see any problem. At this Testdrive i used wasted spark with ign. out 1+2+6 used.

Later while searching for error i downgraded to distributor ign. and just used ign. out 1 at first. Also with the same Problem. The Engine stutters and didn't pull hard.

Then tested distributor ign. with ign out 6 and engine pulls much better.....when not perfect.

So for me it looks like a problem with ign out 1. But is it possible that the engine runs and just have some spark problems? or maybe the problem is something else?
Because i also have connected osciloscope and saw the different pwm signals....but can't measure if maybe some of them are missing......

Sending back would be a solution but at the time in the middle of the season......i couldn't drive anymore....... so would prefer to find another solution.

The log looks pretty good.

What coils do you use ??? The dwell time is quite long. Maybe the coils overheats ?

Coil dwell drops at 16.59.9 from 5ms to 2ms

Why is this?

Battery voltage doesn't change..and neither does CLT or MAP
