US version of windows error

I'm having trouble connecting to the ECU, when I connect I get an error message saying that "ecumaster won't work with the US version of windows". I am from the UK, bought an EcuMaster from the UK. I've tried on a windows XP and windows 7 laptop, the windows 7 is the version supplied new by dell, i'd expect that to be a legit UK version and the XP is running on a legit copy of XP supplied by my friends work, I'd also expect that to be the UK version. Both have the settings as UK (timezone, keyboard, language). What can I check on windows to confirm if they are UK or US versions?

My windows 7 is definately the UK version.

System Locale: en-gb;English (United Kingdom)
Input Locale: en-gb;English (United Kingdom)
