Ford Edis coil pack

Post by Escosn@arc » Fri Jan 23, 2015 1:26 pm

Hello! I´m Hemppa from Finland and i just receaved my EMU control unit.

My car is Escort RS Cosworth and i trying to install Ford Edis4 ignition on it.
Question is this, Cossies Ecu has two trigger sensors. One sensor on the crankshaft and one inside the distriputor.
Is it possible to use cossies own 4 toothed trigger wheel in Edis ignition system and how should it be done.
Point is that i want to get rid off the coil and disputor ignition and go with the more reliable Edis ignition and use wasted spark ignition.
Edis system use 36-1 Trigger wheel to set the ignition.Cossie crankwheel ignites when the tooth is on sensor.
Can i use only the coilpack from edis or do i have to use module too???

Help!!!

Greetings from North.

If you dont want to use the dizzy for the phase sensor you can use the GrpA version which is a cam sensor fitted to the camcover which picks up from an extra shaft fitted to the inlet cam.

Or the other method is use a cam trigger disk off the front cam shaft pulley with a custom bracket and sensor.

failing that have a trigger wheel made up for the bottom pully

So the best way to install this coilpack to my system is to remake crankshaft pulley and modified it to 36-1 triggerwheel?
I have allready the triggerwheel but i was hoping that i could use the OEM wheel in the ignition.
It is much easier me to modified the crankshaft pulley than trying to modified camshaft/wheel.

from what i can remember yes i would just have a 36-1 pully put on my bottom pully and have a bracket for the sensor

im sure somebody else will be able to give you a solution as im a vauxhall person myself and going from installs of megasquirt !

cosworth working well on oem triggers doesn't matter what coil configuration is used..

Ok. Sensors will work, but i need wiring instruction for the 2*2 coilpack what is from Edis system. And is the distributor sensor needed for wasted spark system or can i go only the crankshaft sensor?

HI Yes you need distributor sensor as primary is used as multitooth trigger will post here updated application notes later on..

The sensor wirings are pretty clear to me now.

Thanks!

I used silicone 2.5 mm2 cables for my primary connection.
And a 40 amp gold plated connector from my other hobby. RC helicopter flying.

Image

You can see the yellow connector with the 1+4 on it.

Here you see the 2 yellow silicone cables going to the coil. (+- 1.2 m long)
It is very important ! to use good quality connections and cables for the +12V and prim switching of the coil to keep your losses as low as possible.
