M54 Double Vanos / VVTi - Camshaft positions

Post by web » Sat Jul 15, 2017 1:14 pm

Hi,

I have problems with settings for variable valve timing.
Engine: M54B30 Double Vanos

For intake cam EMU doesn`t see camshaft position angle and for exhaust side there is problems with movement direction.

Will try to explain.

So there is my triggers setup:
Image

Here is Scope:
Image

Its base VVTi-settings(for seeing angle correction needs):

Then im adding angle corrections:

Then im setting AUX outputs, and you can see that there is Angle targets
but CAM1/CAM2 angles doesn`t move. When im changing CAM1 solenoid minimum DC
in fact cam is moving(engine goes faster) but CAM1/CAM2 angle in logs doesn`t move.
Image

But if i will change CAM2 cam movement direction to "increases cam angle" in logs i see that
camshaft positions go to negative:

I tried "1 Tooth", "Missing tooth", "2 Symmetrical tooths" patterns for "Secondary trigger" but it does not help.

I tried to move camshafts trought PWM#1 - and they booth are moving in fact(engine goes faster/slower),
but in log i cannot see camshaft angles.

In scope you can see data from both camshaft position sensors - so they works.

So can somebody to tell me whats wrong ?

P.S.
Engine ignition events starts from 5-th cylinder(because of damper), engine
works fine but cannot control camshaft positions.

Doesn`t help. When i set your settings RPM groves up until 3600 with same Idle DC(intake camshaft started moving) but camshaft angles in log was zero.

Hi
I think steady positions are wrong with this control is never exactly 50%
And do you have flyback diodes installed?

Problem is not with solenoids - they works fine
Using pwm#1 output I can control them - problem is that emu doesn't see camshaft angles correctly - as I see

Move the cams to max retarded position and fix the Cam pffset angle. Then the EMu should see correct value.

Looks like exhaust cam moving now - there are some strange movings but its moving to right direction in right time so its ok.

Intake cam still have the same angle all the time.

I turned off intake side control(VVTI) and when im changing intake camshaft position using pwm#1 - engine moves faster but angle isn`t changed - how its possible ?

I found problem. I mixed up vanos solenoid wire with one wire of the idle valve.

So when i tried to control solenoid trought PWM#1 engine starts to move faster - and it was because of idle control valve and not because of camshaft movings :D :D :D :D
