Ignition EMU

Post by Urosch89 » Wed Sep 03, 2014 7:12 pm

Hello to everything
I want to install in my EMU the wasted spark for this moment. In the future i'll install full sequential spark. Now i buy this module Bosch 0 227 100 211 (4 channel, sequential) with the coil 0 221 503 407 (wasted spark, 2 channel).
My question:
Is possible to install as in picture without problems and overheating?
For setting, in "spark distribution" the correct choice is "coils" and in "coils type" the correct choice is "coils without amplifier"?

Thank you for help, best regards

Mattia

Hi!

What I suggest is to connect these coils to EMU without external module.

You have two option:

1) Preffered one - connect each coil to separate ignition. EMU has ability to fire two spark at once if they are connected in the following way: output 1 & 2, output 3 & 4 and output 5 & 6.
So if the engine has firing order 1-3-4-2 you need connect coils in the following way:

Coil 1 to Ign 1
Coil 4 to Ign 2
Coil 2 to Ign 3
Coil 3 to Ign 4

The output configuration should look as follow:

2) You can connect two coils together to one ignition output. However for full sequential mode you will need to rewire it.

Coils without amplifiers are quite bullet proof, however due to the fact that they will fire two times per cycle it is wise to keep dwell time as low as possible.

If you have possibility to start in full seqential it is advised to do it.

EMU:s Internal coildrivers works great, no need for external :)

Ok, i'll install 4 coils for FULL sequential ignition.
One question: what coils i must to install (0 221 etc)? I prefer bosch because i've an official reseller in front of my business.
Thank you!

Do You have to use coil with wires, or You can use Coil on plugs ?

You need to set correct values !
If you have coil with built in amplifier you need to set it. If you have "Dumb" coils without amplifier, set it ! It cant be wrong, or you can damage EMu or coils or both.

If you set it right and your spark is weak, try to set bigger charge times of the coils for current voltage. ...... or ask your tuner

As Karol wrote chaging coil type for the wrong one can destroy coils or EMU power otutputs.

You need to check two things:

1) Coil dwell time that is set in EMU.
2) The wires that comes from EMU to ignition coils should be at least 1mm of diameter (or more)

It's all ok! But now there is a problem with trigger.
I've 60-2 Fiat trigger wheel.
When the RPM go up, there is an error (UNEXPECTED MISSING TOOTH).

Anyone have ideas?

Thank you

I had the same, try to change from rising to falling or otherwise, at primary trigger settings.
Best regards,

I've tried to change rising to falling and viceversa but without good news. Today i cut 2 tooth to 1 for a total to 20 tooth, and i tell you the news.
Best regards!

Looks like you have noise on the sensor input pin of the EMU. Probably your wirring goes in near of the ignition cable or something.....
Try some real osciloscope to see what happens when RPMs are going higher.

And i also find that the "miss" between tooths is not as low as the gap between each tooth. Can also be problem.
