Post by forthewin » Fri Apr 17, 2015 10:43 pm

Aloha everyone,

I'm located in Maui HI and I'm a new to tuning and have just plugged in my ecu and was about to start it up. What would you recommend me doing to be able to tune the car properly. Mind you I have never done this before. Please see my setup below.

1991 Toyota MR2 N/A
Swapped Gen 3 3sgte with body harness
Doc Racing Manifold
PT 6262
3inch exhaust Apexi GT spec
Tial 44mm Waste Gate
HKS Bov
Trunk mounted Inetercooler
HKS Intake
Racerx Top feed and 1000cc Injectors
Aeromotive FPR w/gauge
AEM Wideband (dont know how to wire it up to the ECU)
Boost Gauge
ECU Masters EMU
Knock Sensor and Boost solenoid
ARP Head stud and all gaskets refreshed.

Mahalo Everyone!

hi there

do you have a base map to start and run the car ?

your best bet would be to find someone local to help you with tuning the car if that's something you want to do yourself so you can learn from them or at least keep an eye on you while you are doing it ! things can go wrong very quick on a turbo car and your on a pt turbo that's not going to be shy on coming onto boost :)

i learnt the hard way years ago with megasquirt as no tuner would touch it so i taught myself very costly lessons im not saying im brilliant but i get by

best advice i can give through my own experience is get some help from some that no`s what they are doing and can guide you people can give advice on the internet that will help but real world is something different

on a good note it should go well with that setup :)
JSR .....uks fastest mk2 astra now with emu ecu !

I have ordered this setup from ATSracing.com and it came with a base map. The car has started but wont idle. Could be the timing is off. I have to find someone with a timing light i can borrow. Finding someone to tune is a little hard here in my island. I would like to try do it my self.....We have no dyno here...yet

A turbo engine is nothing to start with as beginner. You could try to dial in the idle but i recomed not to tune the high boost/load area by yourself.
There can go a lot of things very quickly bad.
Try to find a tuner that map's the car over the Inet.
You need a dynno and good wifi for it.

Atsracing.com offers this service, but I was hoping to save the money along with learning on my own. I guess the investment will need to be made.

Does the emu come with auto tune feature? Is it coming in the future if not currently available?

If I add a meth kit, how much more tuning needs to be done?

If I run c12 race gas how much tuning needs to be done?

Autotune is only for the fuel-table. But that's the easy part anyhow.

3sgte is good for 350HP with stock internals.

Unless you're prepared to buy another motor, have a professional tune the car on a dyno. It sounds like you have high expectations for power output, and that's a bad recipe if you want to treat this as a learning experience. Also, saving money goes out the window when you compare the cost of a new motor versus a proper dyno session. If you pop your motor learning to tune, you're still left with paying a professional to tune the new motor.
