Problems with WBO
Good day,
I have just got my engine to idle and everything except the WBO seems to work fine.
I get a reading of 14,7 all the time, and looking at the log there seems to be a lack of connection or something. I have attached the log.
I have checked all the connections from the wbo connector to the EMU harness with a multimeter and there is connection on all the wires. I have also
double-checked the wiring against the EMU connection diagram and everything is OK.
The WBO is a never used BOSCH LSU 4.2. But I suspect it is broken, or else I have made a mistake somewhere in the settings.
Can anyone of you figure out what the problem is, or do you have any ideas?

Re: Problems with WBO
Looks like the WBO Heater does not work.
Please check if there is +12V on the WBO heater.

Re: Problems with WBO
Thank you for your reply.
I have measured the cable for the heater. It is connected from a fused 12v cable getting power with the ignition switch on.
But when I measure with the engine running it seems to getting only 8,5 Volts. Can this be the cause of the error? maybe I have to find a better supply for the
power. It is from the same supply as the EMU, and when I read battery voltage in the EMU i say 13,5V. Maybe there is a bad connection to the WBO heater, I will check that Asap..
Thanks!

Re: Problems with WBO
It is ok because the heater is controlled by PWM.
Re: Problems with WBO
You can mark checkbox for Oxygen sensor Enable when no RPM.
It means that WBO heater starts to work even the engine is not running.
It is good for testing. You can take the sensor out of the exhoust, and check if it is getting hot.

Re: Problems with WBO
Thanks,
I tested it right now as you said. There is no heat on the WBO. I have checked the power with another multimeter and it is 12V supply to the heater.
I am 100% sure the cable is connected correctly for the heater minus in the EMU.
But when the WBO is disconnected from the exhaust, laying above the engine I get some readings in the log, and now AFR shows 14.9. I get a CEL code for WBO in the software.

Re: Problems with WBO
The wbo should be very hot after 30-40 sec.
Check if your WBO heater is well conencted to EMU WBO heater output (gray connector)

Re: Problems with WBO
Hi,
Can be the connection, but i have checked them several times. All way from WBO connector to EMU with Ohm meter.
I tried to Measure the resistance of the heating circuit in the WBO, I measured 4 Ohms. Then I disconnected the
WBO from the EMU device, and manually grounded the Heater minus while the Heater plus had 12V, after 1 minute it got hot but not very hot(maybe 50-70degrees), not so hot i couldn't touch it.

Re: Problems with WBO
Normally it is not allowed to connect the WBO heater directly to supply
But thats another topic.
Have you checked the current of the heater with a multimeter while it was connected and runnig with the emu?
That is the best indicator and give you an feedback whether the connection and PWM is OK.
If i understood correctly, your problem is that the log no current shows, right?

Re: Problems with WBO
Hi,
Yes, i know it´s not allowed, but as a last resort I wanted to check if it was operational.
The problem is that the WBO shows 14.7 all the time and I get a CEL for WBO in the software. No current in the sensing circuit.
Just want someway to check if the sensor is bad. There is no meaning seeking for the fault a whole day if it´s the senses thats broken.
It is supposed to be a brand new sensor, the car has only been running for maybe 10min on idle, and during this time the sensor show 14.7 whatever I do.
I will go out right now and check the current in the heating circuit.

Re: Problems with WBO
I have now checked all the connectors once again, everything is OK with the connections to the EMU.
I have measured the current in the Heater wire, i get 0 current.
If i check the logs, there is no difference in the values if the WBO is connected or not to the emu. The only difference I can see is that if I am running the WBO with no rpm, the heater PWM goes to 127%. If i have the engine running the PWM stays at about 97%. But there is no heat in the WBO and I still don't get any readings.
The only explanations I can see is that either the WBO of faulty or there is something wrong with my EMU device. The EMU throws a CEL light for WBO so obviously it senses something is wrong with the WBO.
I have attached some pictures of the log, where you can see the difference in PWM between running and turned off engine.
Do you think I shall buy a new WBO and try?

Re: Problems with WBO
I think it is the WBO.
But the LSU 4.2 is build in a lot of cars. Have you such a car in your area only for testing that the WBO is damaged or to test the EMU.
I would not buy a new WBO only for testing.

Re: Problems with WBO
Thanks,
Well, I am getting tired putting two days of error testing, getting nowhere. I have checked everything twice. I ordered a new WBO, I have no cars with the same sensor available. Thats the only reasonable thing I can do, there is no other way for me to find out if its the WBO och the EMU that is faulty.
I am absolutely sure everything is connected correctly, and has always been, exactly as in the manual.
The WBO was connected during the firs startup attempts, maybe it got destroyed then? Is it so sensitive? I can understand if it gets faulty readings, but it´s completely dead, no heat and no signal.

Re: Problems with WBO
If the WBO sensor drops on ground it could be destroyed.
When you power the heater, the WBO sensor should get very hot (inside over 800C if not controlled).
So you can see "glow" inside.
If new sensor will not work please contact us at info(at)ecumaster.com

Re: Problems with WBO
Thank you so much. I hope the new WBO is working. I have not dropped it, but the sensor does not look like brand new, a bit of discoloration on the sensor.
It did not arrive in its original packaging, so I suspect I have received a faulty sensor. I will check as soon as the new arrives.
You have excellent support!
Thanks!

Re: Problems with WBO
Hi,
Now I have tried with the new WBO sensor. The problem is the same as before, no change.
I have once more double-checked all connections. I have disconnected all other cables from the EMU except the WBO cables and the power/grounds, to rule out any disturbance from the other cables and sensors.
I have tried with different 12V sources for the heater with no result. I have re-done all the grounds, new crimping and sanding of the ground-connectors to make sure there is connection.
I have no more ideas of what I can try to make this work..
