sync but no spark

Post by chris72 » Tue Jan 24, 2017 9:50 pm

Hi
i am trying to setup a 90degree v2 engine, i have set the triggers and the log shows correct sync but i have no spark. When i check the log the executed spark count is zero have i missed something simple
i have attached setup file log and scope trace

thanks

quick update
it looks like my strobe light has stopped working, i have spark when using output test.
If someone could check my trigger settings are correct that would be great.

thanks

swap sensor wires and use falling edge emu work better on falling edge... and scope don't even show 2 turns of crank difficult to say anything about it..

capture a longer scope reading (click and hold the blue arrow down) take one falling and one rising

try taking the next edge rejection angle back to 0 on the primary trigger, the cranking rpm is jumping around a lot from 280 up to nearly 600 rpm so this indicates a possible crank sensor problem, and the rejection angle will be hit continuously because of the signal instability. Also try removing the advanced filter on the secondary trigger. The filters are only there if you have interference problems so unless you need them leave them all off.

few other little things i noticed you are getting cranking fuel but you havnt assigned any of the fuel injectors! when rpm goes above the cranking threshold the injectors will stop, i would rais the cranking threshold up to maybe 450 it looks like it cranks quite fast.

There is a lot of noise on all the readings maybe a wiring or sensor grounding issue.

thank you both for the advice
i will make the changes you suggest later today, do i need to change the polarity or the crank sensor for falling edge detection or jut in EMU. At the momentcrank sensor goes positive first then negative as it rotates.
I have also attached a drawing of the trigger tooth pattern as this has an unequal pattern and may complicate matters.
I have the injectors turned off at the moment while i am just cranking and trying to set timing as my face is right next to the turbo dump pipe :D

thanks for your help

ok the trigger will cause big problem if the edge is wrong, it doesnt matter which way the sensor is connected just take a long scope setting it to falling and a long scope of it set to rising and pick the one that has the bars evenly spaced.

you may actually run into problems with this trigger, since it may centralize the signal over the tooth at speed so you may need to change to a hall type sensor and use the rising edge or modify the teeth so they are all the same size

Hi

i have attached scope and log files for rising and falling edge detection both are with secondary filtering turned off and edge rejection set to 0
It is not possible to change the trigger sensor to hall type for primary trigger as the sensor is built into the casing. I will install screened wiring later today.
I will also look at the possibility of modifying the teeth to make them all the same size.

thanks for you help so far

0k looks like in both cases the crank signal is very uneven, this will cause some problems, but in rising case you are now getting a spark count! ... in particular the last crank you did, so it might fire?

Unfortunately the only option might be to modify the trigger wheel. You might be able manipulate the signal somehow but thats way beyond my technical knowledge.

you can try to contact Teck Support directly, Jakub might be able to shed some light on the situation.

Thanks for your assistance
i Have obtained a spare flywheel so we are going to modify the trigger pattern to give 4 even teeth
i also have a working strobe light again, it appears that the lower power motorcycle coils do not allways trigger the light, i have put a car coil on for setup

thanks

Thanks for your help, bike is now running.
There is a 10 degree error in the timing tht i cant get rid of with 10 degrees of advance = 0 ?
We have decided to ignore it and just run a modfied ignition table

thanks

ok thats good to hear,

you have 2 ways to fisx the problem, the trigger angle number you can adjust, that will move the timing of both cylinders and there are also individual ignition event trims that you will be able to adjust each cylinder independently + or -

Hi

i tried adjusting trigger angle and could only make the error greater not smaller ?
As i had to use a strobe light triggered off the low tension side of the ignition coil it is possible the error could be within the strobe as the strobe could be flashing at the start of the dwell period.
Hopefully i can finally solve this when i get a strobe light suitable for motorcycle ignitions.

Thanks

Chris

Trigger angle is an offset, so by making the number smaller the timing will always move in one direction make the number bigger it will always move in the other direction.

You always need a bigger number than the maximum amount of advance in your ignition table.
