TPS Essential ?

Hello
I worked with a couple of ECU that required the Throttle position sensor be connected and working regardless of whether it was used for tuning
and another ECU that could be tuned on speed/density without need to connect the TPS although it was an option to use TPS signal for accel enrich etc
Question is whether the EMU will operate without TPS connected ??
