BMW V8 M62B44 - questions about ignition system

Hi all
I have e30 with m62b44 and will try to get it running with emu. I don't have experience with german technology, only with nissans rb,sr,ca.
So few questions

1. Can i use stock coils with wasted spark ? I think, no. Can somebody confirm this ?
2. Do i need to wire crank+camshaft sensor ? Or only crank sensor is neccesary for wasted spark ?

you only need crank sensor and will need to run waste spark because there are only 6 ignition drivers.
The new emu-classic will have no problem running 2 passive coils from one driver, the older version can do it also but the ignition drivers will be under a lot of load so keep your dwell time as low as you can

That is good news, thx for your answer.
And another question

Crank sensor - 2 wires black + white
black to sensor gnd ?
white signal to emu ?

If you connect the Crank sensor in oposite way, you can just correct it in ECU, choosing rising/falling edge. So no big deal....
If irememnber, the white was signal and black was signal ground, and the shielding goes to chassis ground

very helpful, didnt know that, thank you
and next question

maybe the last one

idle control valve, there are 3 pins
is it a 3 wire PWM, as described at page 96 in emu manual ?

Engine starded

now i need to set the timing 100% correct
on crank balancer there is OT sign , this is TDC ?

on BMW you have always "OIT" an the "I" is the mark

it is very hard to look from good angle at signs, because of very tight fitment in e30 engine bay

but i think i set it properly, or very close
first trigger 3
triger angle 52
but then something strange happens
on idle about 700 rpm, ignition timing set to 12', and when i set to 13' engine dies, everytime - maybe my trigger is wrong ?
so my question, what is the correct ign. angle at idle for this engine ?
i dont have any ign. map for this engine to compare

Everytime you change the trigger setup, it will need to resync again, so it will take some time until it fires again. So you will better set idle higher for this. Yes the BMW is the most user unfriendly for timing lamp.... i use always mirror on BMW, and it is still super tricky to get the correct position, angle and vision.... but it is possible

thx for your answers
now i know that this troubles are "normal"

in nissan engines (which i love

) timing marks are very visible and accurate
btw the radiator is leaking so i have to change it
so ... with the radiator removed i will get the better view

do you know the stock idle ignition timing for this motor ?

its up to you. I am personally fan of very low idle timimng, because the engine runs smoother, but you need more air for it

i made new marks for timing, and now i have all set 99.9% correct
engine runs, car drives, but clutch gave up

so i have to wait with final tune
the hardest thing to tune are enrichments - when on idle i put the accelerator to the floor, still have problems with it.
