Tacho EVO 3

Hi, currently setting up EMU on a EVO 3 and tacho is not working, so i made the relay coil between EMU tacho out and +12V trick to simulate high voltage and now works.
Question is do i have to put diodes or something as i am afraid of the high voltage return to the AUX tacho out?
