Probably 1 pin is connected to ground, 2 & 3 is balanced signal to ECU. I've got CKP sensor like this in x30xe engine. According to EMU instruction, 2 or 3 pin should be connected with B18 sensor ground pin and the second one to trigger input. It is important to look at emu scope, because changing 2 and 3 pin will cause the edge of signal.

pin 1 to b18
pin 2 to engine ground/ ecu ground
pin 3 to b15

am i right in thinking also its a vr and not a hall sensor as i 1st though ??

thanks guys

This sensors working similar to LVTD damper pots unfortunately driver is needed to read them, driver interpreting "phase shift" and generate signal suitable for ecu. So i think different sensor or lvtd driver ( cost about twice EMU price) those are only options..
