CBR 600rr coils

I'm planning on using, denso stick coils on my S38B36 bmw engine they're of an CBR 600rr.
Part Number 129700-4510
Has anybody used these coils with the EMU before? Can I run 6 of these straight of the EMU or should I use an ignition module?
Any recommendations on the dwell settings?
Thanks,
Angelo

You can connect them directly to EMU...

Hi Jadzwin,
Thanks for the swift reply, so power consumption wouldn't be too high?
Any idea on the settings?

I would start at 2.5 msec PW and measure the current.
Keep it under 5 amp peak to be safe to start.
If you don't have the specs of the coil check the temp of the coil regulary .

Hi PBU,
How would you do that?
Would you use a microcontroller (to generate the PW signal) and measuring equipment similar to your injector testing setup?
Excellent job on that by the way.
I do have acces to a pulse generator so I might use that.

Yep found those values as well, I'm looking for some confirmation perferably with expercience on the EMU.

i would go with them numbers they look about right and just keep an eye on them (check for over heating )
i doesnt matter what ecu you have them on they all handle dwell about the same

From 12-16v @ 2.5ms setting cbr 600rr is running without any problems, so this information is safe for coils

No , just meaure when on the car. You need a current sensor and oscilloskop.

Thanks for the tips guys I'll start with these settings. (won't be for a while though)
But I still don't get how I should limit the current, as you say to 5A max?
Or Is this solely controlled by the dwell time and should I monitor it with a current sensor?
Thanks for the help!

For future reference
Did some more research on the subject and found the following article very helpfull. I think I get it now.
http://www.dtec.net.au/Ignition%20Coil% ... ration.htm
It describes a method for generating data on the bench as well. I think I'll try that first since it will be a while until I install it on my car. And I would like to do as much as I can to generate usefull data to speed up the actual on vehicle proces to keep downtime to a minimum.

Did some measurements of my own, my power supply wasn't stable at 17v so I quit at 16v, here are the times I came up with for for 5A:
At 6 and 7 volts you don't reach 5A I do have the graphs as well in case anyone interested.

Nice job!
