Cam sync trigger tooth question

Post by knastbigger » Sun May 10, 2015 3:18 am

Hi Guys

When driving at low rpm I sometimes gets a misfire, have found out that I have strange trigger signal. Do you have any ideer why ?

The engine is a BMW M52B28
The crank and cam sensor is both VR from a M50 engine
The car runs fine and pulls clean, its only during low rpms

I would use option sensitivity switch (try to setup this option for as low RPM as possible) or use in series resistor (eg. 20K ) with cam signal .

Hi Jadzwin

Can you explain how dwell error is messured. I just got the same error at high rpm also, but now I dont see the cam sync trigger tooth at the same time

The coils are 0 221 504 004 (M52B28)
The dwell time is 1.65 @ 14 volt

The dwell error is the difference between required dwell and real dwell. It could change due to cranks shaft rotation speed change (dwell is issued one revolution earlier) or trigger errors.
In your situation the cam sync trigger tooth could be stable (+/- 2 teeth)

Hi Jadzwin

Thanks, so it's just noise on the signal ?
