Hi,

I am about to connect my emu to my cars stock ignition. It's a bosch ignition module and a coil, firing to a distributor. The coil is soon to be changed
to a msd blaster ss coil. The plan is to keep the ignition module.

My question is if I should choose coil with or with our amplifier in the ignition settings if I am keeping the bosch ignition module? Or is it possible to
remove the module and run the msd blaster coil directly by the EMU as a coil without amplifier? The EMU is located in the glovebox of the car, so there is no good cooling for the device.

Please help me, because I don't want to damage the EMU.

You can connect coil directly to EMU.

Hey, i have a general question about the coils. Where do i know from if i have coils with or without built in amplifier. I mean can i see it if i have a closer look at the coils? Or can i check it in any other way? Is there anything general to identify if coils are with or without amplifier. The thing is i am about to fire up a M52b28 BMW Engine but i have absolutely no idea what kind of coils are in there. And i don't want to burn down the coils or the Emu =D Does anyone of you guys have this engine with stock coils? What have u choosen? with or without amplifier?

Without amplifiers.

On the subject of coils and igniters.
I have a couple of Nissan Skylines that are running coil on plug and separate igniter units, the RB igniter is believed to be a known weak point (although I have never had a failure)
I have the option to ditch the igniter and wire the coils direct and this tidies up the top of the engine and makes spark plug access easier.
The only reason I haven't done this is I figured why give the ECU more work if the external igniters are still working? is ditching the external igniter and letting the ECU take care of it likely to put more load on the ECU?

As long as power ground are properly wired is not a problem with it..

Actually if you choose to lose the ignition module the EMU will run hotter, while it will run cooler while using the ignition module, but that don't mean it is not working properly.

I have found the internal EMU igniters to be very reliable and it just eliminates one more component and sets of connection plugs etc from potential problems and failures

This is 1 really cool thing about EMU that we can wire passive coils directly to ecu. Not many ecus have internal ignitors. I always remove external modules with EMU.

This was my concern that as most other ECU's use external igniters (whether in coil or separate) I wasn't sure how this ECU would behave with the extra heat of using internal igniters.
I will move to the internal igniters and see how it goes.
