Coil dwell time

Post by pepifebles » Sat Jul 18, 2015 6:50 pm

Hi guys,

Can somebody explain how work coil dwell time? My stock system its distributor and leads. Does this affect to performance? My actual set in my 3sgte rev 3 its 3.10 to 14v. What will happend if increase or decrease it?

Too much dwell will heat coil, too less may lead to not enough spark energy.
More engine load - more spark energy (dwell) required.
Higher batteryV = less dwell, Smaller batteryV = more dwell.

So in general, use as less as possible so, that engine works without missfires.

You will not gain any performance with more spark energy that enough for mixture to ignite.
But You can damage, overheat, shorten the life of coil.
