Cranks but wont start

Post by Michael Osborne » Mon Dec 05, 2016 9:58 am

Hi Guys. Any help on this would be appreciated. I have an MR2 (SW20) with a 3SGE engine which I have added a M62 supercharger, larger 370cc injectors and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. The car starts and runs using the standard ECU, but not perfectly hence the DET3. This weekend I fitted DET3 with the wiring schematic I found on MR2OC forum with the exception of the MAF as the 3SGE has a MAP so for that I used the wiring for the Toyota Supra as found in the det3 wiring diagrams. The ignition is set up as a retard single signal and the input set as Hall effect.
The problem is, the car wont start with the Det3 connected but will fire up first time with it disconnected.
Am I doing something wrong?

check if your CKP sensor has 3 wires or 2

It has 4 wires coming from the distributor (see distributer pic) and there is an IGT off the ecu which sends the signal to the ignitor (esa ignition system). The way which I thought it would work would be to use the IGT wire from the ecu into the det3 then to the ignitor?

Latest update. The car is now running!
The wiring using the IGT wire is correct and doe transmit the signal from the Cam sensor.
To get the signal from the cam sensor I removed the distributer cap and rotor arm, cleaned the 2 pick up points and the trigger wheel. With the distributer cap removed I checked that the pickup points air gap and the resistance of the connections all of which were within tolerance.
I then reconnected the det3 and activated the self test, at which point the ignitor started clicking, turned the engine over and it started. I suspect that the reason it wouldn't start was a weak signal from the cam sensor.
I hope this is of some help to others who may have problems getting the dte3 to SYNC.
