Region locks???

Post by Richardc9052 » Sat Jul 11, 2015 1:06 am

I was recently told by an tuning shop that sells Ecu Master products that we have to buy the DET3 from him or a UK distributor as Ecu Master have now implemented region locks on them which cause the DET3 to stop communicating with the PC if the regions dont match software to Hardware. Now I personally think this is all lies and a ploy to make people buy the product from him at a higher price (The guy is charging €350 euro for DET3 with 2.5bar ms + wiring + solenoid) when i can get the same det3+solenoid for about €210 delivered and wire myself or pay someone €50 to wire in for me..

Can someone please confirm or deny this claim? I would like to know so i can give the people asking me the correct information.. Thanks!

Lol i KNOW its a lie... its a really annoying situation because i cant get an answer off an actual Ecu Master Representative. Unless i do, nobody is going to believe me over a reputable tuner. Its just the principal of it. the fact that he is flat out lying to customers because the ecu isnt that popular here yet.. Really grinds my gears.

If you are in the UK you should buy from the UK distributor. If you have a problem with the distributor please contact Ecumaster directly.

You will run into legal trouble if you try to break the EU´s free trading laws in dealer contracts. There have been manufacturers paying million Euro fines for this.
EU laws are no jokes any blocke can ignore, just because he things to make more profit by forbidding dealers to sell over EU border.
GB is (till now) in the EU.

You also cant refuse to repair an ECU sold in GB that was sold to Grece for example, during the first year.

Some people have to learn to run a business, respect laws and customer rights the hard way.

Good luck!

Prices per region are almost always differentiate for example Bosch motorsport ABS cost in UK about £8.5 k while in europe is about 7.5k euro and nobody sued Bosch .
if you try contact bosch about it or their dealer in europe you will be redirected to UK dealer..
also try to buy TV in uk and get warranty repair in europe Good luck...

There is no regional lock on DET3.
The device price depends only on local dealers.

In the case of EMU there are 3 products for 3 markets. And they differ in price due to additional cost connected for distribution, support and localisation. However the final price depends only on local dealer.

There is no agreement beteween distributors and manufacturer.
According warranty it is made by manufacturer and any broken device is sent there (from all markets there is 24 warranty).
