Golf MK1 Cabrio + 1,8T Upgrade

Hello everybody,

i´m Jan from the north west of germany near the borderline to the netherlands.

My car (Project) is a MK1 Golf cabrio from 1993, i bought it without engine. Rebuild it complete at the technical side.

The first setup was:

1,8T AGU (everything stock inside)
K04-023 Turbo
Stock gearbox from the donor car (Golf MK4 GTI 150hp)
Complete harness of the MK4, everythin also light harness.
Install the ABS system of the MK4
Spec 3 clutch
H&R 50mm rebound coilover
Complete 3 inches Exhaust
Intercooler from a Mercedes Sprinter.

Get a file for the Bosch ME3.83 from a Tuner that was for the bigger Turbo and the Audi S3 injectors.

But the file was to hard and the engine had to early to much torque thereby one of the connection rods left the engine block

So that was a big damage!

Next step was a bit more work at the engine:

Zylinderhead was completly overhauled with RS4 valve springs and some more.
A new engine bolck get new pistons and IE connection rods with the result of 8,5:1 for more boost and more ignition angle.
The engine is now build for 500hp but with a small turbo.
It is an TTE upgrade K04-023 with the data of 300hp
And a new manifold
The Mercedes intercooler canged to a custom cooler from schweizer. (Not more than 10°C over outsidetemp at full load)

The gearbox get an Wavetrac locking differential.

The engine reached with stock ECU 312hp and 400NM

The mapping does a Tuner but after the first mapping i get the car back and was surprised that the EGT went to 1000°C and i tested not longer full load.

No wonder with an AFR of 14 at full load!

After some discussions with the tuner he believed me and the car goes a second time to him.
After the second mapping the car runs good at full load but partial load was not so fine.
For example the ACC enrichmet is too high and AFR goes to 10
After some more discussions i had enough!

And now i tune it by my self with the EMU

The EMU is a very great ECU and unbeatable price compared with other ECU on the market with the same features.

Now i´m at 1bar pressure and partial load is 100% better than before, everything is very smooth.

I have now a lot of functions and posibilities as with the Stock ECU.

I will give you some more pictures soon.

The original clutch was not build for that torque, so i upgrade it to a spec 3.

Then came the EMU

Build the plug and play adapter together with my new buddy
IMG_5787.jpg
Brrrrr.... Yes bad stock ecu
IMG_6113.jpg
I builded the pnp adapter with a empty cover of an stock ecu, for the beginning it was helpful to change fast to the stock ecu. Complete with an MUX switch board to save inputs. But now in the winter time i will build a complete new wiring loom that goes directly to the EMU.

Good Idea with the original ECU.
Do you have pics from inside the origina ecu?
did you use the original pins and just cut off the layout platine?

@Napkin
yes i use the original pins and just throw out the original circuit board. I solder the cables on the pins inside.
I can make some pictures later.

@Kisielisodd
Thanks for the comment, but this stuff are old. Now i have installed an GTX3076 twinscroll turbocharger and some other stuff. Maybe next spring i will update this topic with some new data.
