Controlling of a BMW M70 V12 Engine with 2 EMU ECU

Post by XuMuK » Fri Mar 18, 2016 8:29 am

Hi Guys, i´m just done with mechanical building of my E36 354i with 6-speed transmission from an E31 850CSi.:

And now i would like to use the two of EMU ECU for my Projekt. One EMU for Cyl. 1-6 and another one for Cyl 7-12. The Idle run, throttle bodies are controlled by original EML from 850Csi. So i want to use the EMU only for Injection and Ignition. So i have some questions about possible configs:

is it possible

a) to use only one Crankshaft-Sensor and send the signal to another emu?
b) to use only one camshaft sensor for sync of all cylinders?
c) to use only one CLT-Sensor and send the signal to another emu?
d) the same for IAT-Sensor?
e) to use for each Bank an own distributor for ignition with EMU (also a coil + distributor for cyl 1-6 and a coil + distributor for cyl 7-12)

If i use for sending of data between the emus the serial port, can i connect the bluetooth module too?

Thank You Guys, sorry for my English, i´m a russian living in Germany :D

Why you dont use 1 EMU and Waste spark system ?

Because i do not like wasted Spark an wasted Injection :D
Germanys TÜV wants a lamda Control for both banks. And i want a nice 2 x R6 engine, like all BMW Cars with a V12 (each Bank has an own ECU).

But if it is not possible, so i have to use to Crankshaft sensors and two camshaft sensors

i think emu will share the same cam and crank sensors no problem,

For the AIT and CLT this should also work just sharing the same sensor too..

but if you have problems use the dedicated sensor inputs on the first ecu and use and assign aux inputs to the same sensor on the 2nd one and it should just share the pullup voltages provided from the 1st one. (you may need to combine both sensor grounds)

You can connect CLT and IAT to analog inputs (there are no pullups) so it solve the problem with sharing signals.

For CKP and CAM signals there is no problem at all.

OK, ich have some understanding probs with wiring of Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors:

the shield-wire from sensor should be connected to both EMUs, how do i connect the plus-wire and minus-wire of the Crankshaft sensor to both EMUs? See the pic below:

is that the right way?

yes all the sensor grounds will need connecting together from both EMU and connecting to all the sensors incl crank and cam sensors, then the +ve from the crank sensor will need to connect to both EMU, and cam sensors to each individual emu

shields shouold be attached to any chassis ground at one end only
