Need help setting up boost control settings.

Post by Vendetta » Mon Dec 01, 2014 10:23 am

I'm kinda lost in trying to setup the boost control. I have a MAC boost solenoid (model 35A-AAA-DDBA-1BA). I'm not understanding the main parameters and PID parameters. Can someone explain to me what each parameter do? Anyone with the same boost solenoid mind posting a screen shot of your settings? Thanks!

Hi!

You have two possibilities open loop and close loop control.

I suggest start with closed loop control.

Enable boost control - enables boost control startego
Boost control type - open / closed loop. For open loop PID is not working.
Solenoid output - the output where you connect MAC
Invert output - use this option if you connect MAC valve that higher DC decreases boost. However we suggest to connect MAC to you trubo instalation in the way that higher DC increases boost
Solenoid frequency - the freqency of solenoid. For MAC select 30
Solenoid min DC - minimu DC of solenoid. Select 15%
Solenoid max DC - maximum DC of solenoid. Select 90%
Disable output under - do not power solenoid if the pressure is under defined. Select 100kPa
Boost switch input - if you want to have multiple boost tables you can define boost switch input here

And now there is table DC Ref #1.

This table is a function of TPS position and RPM.
Now enter the same number in the whole table eg. 60% DC and make run.
Write down the boost you achieved.
Check it for several DCs and then build your DC table based on these numbers.

There is also table DC error correction.
If you make the DC table, then you can Boost target table. Then using DC error correction table you can make corrections to DC to keep Boost target.

Hi
below are the boost settings used on a Hayabusa turbo, the boost builds fast and follows target very well.
This is a track only bike so the settings may be a bit aggressive for the road but you should get the idea

Thanks for the quick reply. Whats PID parameters used for?

PID is used for closed loop control, it can give better response and accuracy but can take a lot of setting up, have a look at PID loop on google for more info.
To be honest i am more than happy with the response of the open loop control and error correction, this gives approximatly the same result as full closed loop but with much less setup.
