Wasted Spark Help
Hey guys, I have a customer that I has a N/A supra that I got running a few weeks ago.
He was running stock coil, distributor, and ignitor. Today I swapped over to VVTi coils, so the distributor is still there, but I have removed the factory ignitor and coil. When I wired up the VVTi coils, one pin goes to power, and the other side goes directly into the EMU, so I have his setup on Ignition output as: 1,3,2,1,3,2.
Coils that are paired are:
1,6
2,5
3,4
So on 1+6 I have them on G8, 2+5 on G16, and 3+4 on G9 (which is why I have the ignition output funny).
I have sync, and there is spark, but it will not even try to fire. I've checked spark on all the wires, but didn't check on the coil side, I'm assuming if there's fire on the wires, then the coils should have spark too.
I would imagine if it was in the wrong order I'd at least get a sputter. If there a chance that the dwell is wrong? I haven't even touched the dwell settings to be honest. I believe at 12v it's at 4ms, and at 10v it's at 7ms

Re: Wasted Spark Help
Firing order 153624
so this should be paired
1+6
5+2
3+4
so at this point OK , ignition output will be than 123123
if ouy use passive coils, they should be selected in EMU too. (If you are no using the ignitor).

Re: Wasted Spark Help
Yes,
I selected in the ignition "Coils without Ignitor". I have them wired directly to the EMU without the ignitor.

Re: Wasted Spark Help
So you've verified ignition timing with a timing light?ihiryu wrote:

You can always check the "executed sparks count" channel in the log to see if the EMU is triggering the coils.
Re: Wasted Spark Help
Yes, when the car was still using the distributor. I haven't checked now since the coils have went on.
I also have spark count. I've let it crank to like 30 spark counts out of sheer frustration lol

Re: Wasted Spark Help
OK for distributor you have 6 sparks per 2 revolutions of the engineWHPZach wrote:So you've verified ignition timing with a timing light?ihiryu wrote:

On Waste spark makes every pair 2 sparks per 2 revolutions of the engine
So your timimng can be correct, or 120 or 240° off........ just try.
Re: Wasted Spark Help
So adjust the trigger angle in the ignition tab? I currently have it at 66.
Re: Wasted Spark Help
you can try different ignition sequences 123123 or 231231 or 312312
of the same effect is had by adding an ignition offset number 0,1 or 2
of the same effect is had by adding an ignition offset number 0,1 or 2
Re: Wasted Spark Help
I would imagine even with the ignition order wrong, I figured I would get a backfire or something.
Re: Wasted Spark Help
you might have to offset the "start" of the ignition sequence.
my events start with cyl2, not 1. Zach mentioned that leading the sequence (even when correct) by using the wrong cyl, can result in a no start situation.
mine is 241536.
not 153624.
the starting point of the sequence for the EMU software may need to be different than the starting point sequence of the oem ecu.

Another point goes to RHD for helping me out.
Put some new plugs in it, changed some settings around and got it fired.
