Basic (AFR) vs Advanced (Lambda) Tuning Approach

Post by rockyboist » Wed Jun 29, 2016 9:13 am

Can we have a discussion among these 2 on which do you prefer as to what are their:

Advantages
Disadvantages
Differences
Tips and techniques
How to's (tuning approach, where and how to start)

Would like to have the views of the gurus here to help newbies like me wanting to explore.

As for me, when I received the EMU it had a start up map with the Fuelling Strategy set to Advanced already. Now I am starting to tune just the idling and encountering some issues. If I set it to Basic AFR my car wont fire when it is hot, will have to let it cool down. It starts fine however when it is set Advanced. And I find when it is set to Basic (AFR), it's a bit rich.

AFR Basic doesn't reference your AFR tables.

Lambda Advance does.

So if you're tuning advance, once everything is set perfect, and you decide you want to hit another target, you would only have to change the lambda table.

So for instance, in advance, you set up your AFR table, then you tune your VE to hit the lambda. Then you decide that you want to lean it out a little more, you would just change the lambda table.

In basic, it never references the AFR table, the only time it does is when you're auto tuning.

Since Advanced have been released i`ve never needed Basic anymore. There are only advantages in using Advanced fuelling model. In-detail explanation is in EMU client help, just read it there.

Autotune works in both models, however Advanced is much more robust.
