fly back diode
where and how is the best neatest and most reliable way to install flyback diodes?
Re: fly back diode
Hi
Best is nearest to ECU.

Re: fly back diode
why is best nearest to the ecu and not nearest to the part?
Re: fly back diode
Protection device should always be installed as close as possible to device to protect. In this case transistor.
Simple electronics rule.

Re: fly back diode
In this case it doesn't matter. The diode is not to protect the transistor. The transistor is protected against flyback. It is used to lower power dissipation of the transistor.

Ah , ok. My mistake.Jadzwin wrote:In this case it doesn't matter. The diode is not to protect the transistor. The transistor is protected against flyback. It is used to lower power dissipation of the transistor.

Re: fly back diode
I was more interested in other people's actual hard wiring techniques, a diod has a solid wire so any place it is installed amongst other soft stranded wiring, soldered or crimped, ecu or component end it will always be prone to the wire getting bent too much and breaking.
Re: fly back diode
I usually install inside a boot for given component but using semi-rigid boots (ATUM) or rayhem mil spec..
Re: fly back diode
i prefer to mount diode as close to coil as posible, its because noise emiting from wires when diode is in action could cause disturbance in other paralel wires, which is allways case of engine loom
Re: fly back diode
acording to the base rules of electronic... you can use rule which you like more... i prefer this one: "get rid of disturbance in place of occurence"
