Hi,
Connected an EMU standalone to my M52.
It has 12v on coils and spark.
It has 12v on injectors and squirts fuel.
It has trigger signal from hall sensor and cranking 230 rpms.
But cant get it running, maybe one of you can check my settings please?
I connceted ignition channels 1-6 with coils 1-6 (1 from front of engine) and the same for injectors (441ml @ 3bar).
The firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4.
Turned the engine to TDC and counted 5 teeth to first missing tooth counter clockwise.
M52 -has spark, fuel, trigger siganl. Help wont start.

Re: M52 -has spark, fuel, trigger siganl. Help wont start.
What engine block are you using and where is your crank sensor located? m50nv, m50tu and m52 all have different sensor types and/or different locations also different firing order sequence start point, so they all have different trigger configurations.
Also why are you using wast spark? are you getting a cam sensor signal on the scope? I know all these engines well, if you can take a scope reading i can tell you exactly how to set it up

Its and m52b28 and tomorrow I will draw trigger wheel from TDC just to verify.
Dident connect the cam sensor, but I can do it and make a scope log also, but I was just told that the original cam sensor cant be connected? Thought it was Vr?
Re: M52 -has spark, fuel, trigger siganl. Help wont start.
yes that is correct they are a duel VR but you should only need to connect one side (try connecting center pin to sensor ground and one of the outer pins to camsync input) see if you get a reading on the SCOPE feature
if you are using the m52 alloy block and the crank sensor is down by the starter the firing sequence will start from 5,3,6,2,4,1
have you wired IG#1-coil#1 IG#2-coil#2 IG#3-coil#3.... etc?

Heres the update.
Connected the cam sensor. Original DME is siemens 41.0 and connected pinput 64 (middle pin in connector) to sensor ground in EMU position 18 in black connector and then pinout 65 (pin 1 in connector) to position 15 (cam sync #1).
Tried to take scope and nothing.
Moved signal to position 6 (camsync #2) and tried but no scope signal.
i checked all wiring with multimeter to verify connections.

Then I turned cylinder 1 to TDC and made a drawing of how the trigger wheel looks in the hope you can help. And yes it is a lovely drawing

Toke some pictures of the engine so you can see how the sensors are placed.
Crank sensor -Hall.

Cam sensor -? Mismatch. Was told to replace with a hall form obd 1.

Picture of front engine.

I will attach the map and trigger log.
Yes I have wired ig#1 to coil 1 and on

Hi!
Try this:
First trigger tooth: 45
Trigger angle: 54

Thanks.MrBmw wrote:Hi!

Its a 60-2 wheel.
Can you please explain? I thouht it was 54 teeth after TDC?
Re: M52 -has spark, fuel, trigger siganl. Help wont start.
The M52 has dual HALL sensors. Never got the one on the cam to work so im always using the M50 camsensor.
Start it up in wasted spark. 1+6 2+5 3+4 1+6 2+5 3+4
First trigger tooth 45 and trigger angle 54.

Ok cool thanks.
I will try it today.
Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 or the other sequenze as mentioned by RHD?
One more thing, how much injector time for cranking would you guys recomend for 441ml injectors?

Re: M52 -has spark, fuel, trigger siganl. Help wont start.
Ok i see your still not not getting a signal from the cam sensor and the location of the crank sensor is actually from an m50 engine. So what you have is an m50 block with an m52 head could that be correct??
Using a first trigger tooth of 44 and running the firing order 153624 is the same as running a first trigger tooth of 4 and using firing order 536241 (this is all with a trigger angle of 60) ............ but at this point that does not matter its just a simple case of changing the settings, what we need to achieve is a signal from the cam sensor
The ARROW in your picture is pointing to the VANOS solenoid and the can sensor is tucked in behind that.
There are 3 different sensors: m50 non-vanos which is VR, m50 vanos which is Hall and m52 which is duel VR... do we know this is the cam sensor you have?... since the block is not m52 is it possible the head or cam sensor is also not m52??
It looks like the duel VR m52 requires a sensor voltage to excite the electromagnet you can try to achieve this by connecting as follows
M52 duel VR
Pin 1 - camsync #1 B15 (yellow wire DME pin 65)
Pin 2 - sensor ground B18 (black wire DME pin 64)
Pin 3 - +5v B23 (brown wire DME pin 43)... Might pay to measure the resistance between pin 2&3 if its less than about 1.5 ohms then this will draw too much current from the +5v OP!
Alternatively you can replace the sensor with a Hall effect sensor from an m50tu vanos engine or a single VR sensor from an m50 non vanos engine. Use the colors of the wires above to identify the connection etc.
M50 Hall (vanos)
Pin 1 - +12v (from eng harness or ignition sw etc)
Pin 2 - camsync #1 B15
Pin 3 - chassis ground
M50 VR (non-vanos)
pin 1 - cansync #1 B15
pin 2 - sensor ground B18
Pin 3 - shield (chassis ground)
