ALS valve connector

Post by pepifebles » Wed Oct 12, 2016 10:54 pm

Hi,

I wan't use a Bmw Iddle valve like als valve to my 3sgte. Its Bosch 3 pin valve and I don't know how do the wiring? Any advise?

it should be in the manual, 3 wire PWM valve, i think the middle pin is for 12V and the others goes to steppers output with diodes.

But for me I like the open throttle ALS, much stronger and sounds better, also damage turbo faster :)

Also +12 center pin, I should use 2 steppers output to each ends pin?

Open throttle als mode its more complicated for me, also its street car.

Thanks for helps

Yes 2 steppers output to each end with two diodes for each stepper, i have used it as idle valve but not to activate ALS, so am not sure how it will work, or how much air it will get in!!

we used to use cruse control devices to open the throttle to the desired % and activate the open throttle ALS, with fuel-cut idle, so its up to you, try the idle valve it might work for you, but am petty sure it will require more than one idle valve to draw enough air for perfect ALS :)

I know a uk celica that use als with this Bosch bmw Valve. Also of this, I will have to think something to get vacuum for my brakes

Hi,

what I bought yesterday, due to low vacuum caused by my cams: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Brake-Boo ... 1562443803
In a VW forum I read about a VR6 guy who connected the pump to the brake lights via a time relay, so that everytime he hits the brakes the pump runs for a certain time. He uses the pump in addition to manifold vacuum, because of fail safety reasons.
I would like to have the pump pressure controlled, that would be a nicer version in my opinion. I was wondering if the pump has an inbuilt pressure switch, but I am afraid it will take some external control circuit. The industrial pressure switches I found online were all like 100x100x50mm big, I am sure there are automotive pendants which are much smaller, but I have not found one yet.

Keep us updated :)

Kind regards, Clem

Hi,

I've read a bit of antilag in some rally boards and they often use so called throttle kicker. This is just a small solenoid, which pushes the throttle a bit open to lets say 10-20%. And this is enough air for ALS.

There are many ways of doing ALS - fixed open throttle, throttle kicker (can be vacum operated, electrical or even mechanical i guess, i put cruise-control devices into same category), air circulation valve (extra air can be directed past throttle into intake manifold or like WRC cars do, directly into exhaust manifold. Ie, Mitsu Evo RS models, Toyota Gt4 WRC have ready ALS ports in exhaust manifold for this reason), DBW (in my opinion smartest and most flexible).
How much air you`ll need for your ALS be effective will depend on your particular setup (turbo size, engine size ,cams etc etc). It also depends how aggressive ALS you want/need. What i usually do, 2 different ALS setups (ie, 1.fixed open throttle, 2.fixed throttle + idle valve 100%) that driver can select from switch. I`ve never tested exhaust manifold method, but it seems most high level rally cars use this.
I also think only Bosch idle valve will not be enough to be effective, but you must test. Bosch idle valve is quite big and 2 of them already should be good.

Great info, How much als I need? Its my street car, don't want something very agressive, only hear any bang band is enough porn to me :D :D

Thanks

I dont know how much ALS you need :D
Just try and test, you have all needed info. Also If you going to install Bosch idle valve for air by-pass and you find out it is not enough, you can try setup combined fixed throttle + by-pass valve + idle valve. This way throttle will be open very small % and it will be much user friendly than just fixed throttle method.
In my opinion for street car you don`t need any ALS.

for brake you can run vacuum pump, you can find those on older Mercs (anyway the brake keep on working you just need to press extra hard to slow it down) but anyhow you can just try the idle valve, but am pretty sure its will require more than that, i always tune my cars to run between 30% to 40% open throttle, there you will get the huge flames and crazy bangs, plus extra boost on stand still, we use it mostly on drifting cars where brake is not needed :)
