Ignition timing needed for EMU ?

Hi,

im connecting the EMU to an bmw e30.

The original ECU is using the crank sensor and also an ignition timing sensor which comes from the spark plug of cylinder 1.

Now the EMU works other way to count the crankshaft position and timing.
Am i right that it isnt necessary to connect the timing sensor from spark plug to emu? (just the crank sensor is enough)

Original ignition is single coil with distributor.

I want to convert to wasted spark later......................

The timing sensor is not necessary unless you want to run the engine in full sequential fuel.

I thought that for full sequential mode i would need an cam sensor ? Because all people install them when they convert to full sequential. Other way they easily could use the ignition sensor from spark plug 1.

Hmm the cam sensor does show in which cycle the engine really is....
The Plug sensor from cylinder 1 does this also ? in real the engine could be in power stroke or exhaust stroke ?

Need some help :-)

In your case the spark sensor work as cam sensor :)
Because there is distributor your signal from spark sensor is correct.

So if you want to remove distributor you need to add cam sensor to run full sequential ignition and fuel.

I have installed EMU on a few e30 m20 and we usually just use 3x twin fire coils in wast spark or the original distributor and run semi sequential.

I have thesw trigger settings for single coil running directly from the emu (no external igniters)

Ok thanks.....
I wanted to be sure.....
I try to solve one Problem that the car won't start anymore.
Car runs fine with EMU single coil and distributor.
Than i switched to wasted spark and just plugged the cables with cheap connectors for testing...... car also runs....
Then i wanted to do fixed installation withe good original connecrors and superseal connectors and somehow it don't start anymore.

By the way.... how can i check easily if ignition signal is coming out from emu to coil?

I don't want to damage something with testing wrongly....
