Bugs and Feature reqests
Not sure if this is a bug in the software (latest version 1.112 but was doing it on a previous version) or an issue with my laptop (Toughbook CF-18)
I have recently got to the stage in the mapping where I am fine tuning the engine at higher revs and have found that every time I stray up to 6,000rpm the software freezes and is not responding, if I unplug the USB cable the software instantly starts responding again and I can plug the cable in and all is well, until I go back up to 6,000rpm. However I obviously lose all data from the point it freezes and cannot view any live data.
The highest RPM I have managed to datalog is upto 5,800rpm, every time I have hit over 6,000rpm it freezes consistently.
It may not be related but on a few occasions since I have started getting higher into the revs when edging up around 5,500rpm, the rev counter just drops to zero and then flys back up to the correct reading.
Please let me know if I can provide further details.
Edward.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Sounds like noise from your ignition system. Check that you have resistor sparkplugs and sheilded cable correctly connected to your trigger.
What kind of usb cable are you using?

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
The Spark plugs are NGK BKR7EIX and the trigger cables are definitely shielded, the car is a Nissan Skyline and the trigger cables are shielded very well.
The USB I hadn't really considered, I am building the car for track use so the dash panel is fitted with a permanent usb data plug, the lead from this plugs into the EMU and then I plug a male to male usb cable between this data port and the laptop.
Tomorrow I will try a direct usb cable from the laptop to the EMU and see what happens.
Thanks,
Edward.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Hey I have a similar problem, but the non-responding client comes most of the times about 8 min after turning on the emu, sometimes earlier, please read below.
I run version 1.110 on Win 8.1 x64, ASUS 1215n
I had no problems for approx. 1 hour after using this software version for the first time (connected to emu). But now, client "freezes", and also the engine behaves strange.
Engine feels like in an emergency program after changing gas pedal state, for 0,5sek.
When I then unplug the USB cable and replug it, sometimes the client works again, sometimes I need to restart the laptop. The last time neither USB replug, nor change the USB port, nor restarting client, nor restarting the computer helped out. It seems like the error happens more and more frequent
One other fact is, the client works great, with no device connected, except of the tune display when a log is opened. Then the VE, RPM, MAP, TPS, Inj. duty cycle jumps betweenn two values^^
I read about a newer driver, I will install it and try tomorrow.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Hey guys, for next versions it would be great to have the protection that gives an event, when lambda is x percent different as target lambda. Then you can activate engine light and rev limiter.
And another thing is, it would be nice to have more variables in the output menu for the output reason, for example Injector DC is greater than x and WBO is greater than x and so on.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Already found my "bug", the error only occures when the laptop is connected to the tuning monitor in the car. It is run by a NVIDIA ION graphics card. May be a driver issue?
It also seems to occure more often when I use the fine increase shortcut: ALT + +
does that make any sence?

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Probbly connecting to tuning monitor create ground loops.
I can't find connection between fine tune key and connection problems.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Okay, been out and tried again with a new USB cable direct into the EMU and still the same.
On the datalog I have managed to mark just after some of the freeze events (unplug quickly, then plug back in and as soon as it starts responding press to mark the log)
It seems that a second or two before it freezes the readings kind of smooth out, all the readings lose their fluctuations and almost flatline.
The RPM is not consistent as it seems to happen at 5,800rpm, 6,000rpm and today I amanged to log upto 6,200rpm.
If I upload the datalog anyone fancy looking over it and see if I am missing something obvious or make any suggestions?
Edward.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
First of all it is important to run Laptop from battery not from charger (that make ground loops).
Your descriptio sounds like some grounding problems that at higher revs hang up USB communicatin chip. That is the reason that unplug / plug again USB cable helps (it restarts USB communication chip).

Thanks for the reply.
The laptop is always running off the battery.
I will look into the earth points involved.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Hi jakub, thanks for the info. I usually run laptop with the dc-ac charger attached. The Screen runs directly from car battery power (ignition switched). If I would use an DC DC converter with a common ground (for 12v and 19V) there may would be no issue? I ordered a dc dc converter a week ago, but I am still waiting for it to arrive...
thanks!
thanks!

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
If the converter is isolated there should be no issue. But if not there will be and issue.
Laptops ground (via DC converter) loops with EMU ground through the GND of USB connector.
You can use external battery for DC converter then there will be no ground loop.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Hi everyone,
have some issues here with the new 1.113 firmware update....if I try to open any windows in the client, regardless if a table or anything else, the client won't respond anymore. It's running on a Windows Vista Notebook, never had problems with the client before.
Happy easter to everyone at Ecumaster!

What do you think, is it possible and useful?Jan32 wrote:Hey guys, for next versions it would be great to have the protection that gives an event, when lambda is x percent different as target lambda. Then you can activate engine light and rev limiter.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Hi,
I have renewed all of the earths, including fitting an earthing kit and adding extra earths but the issue is still the same.
I had a strange issue today where whilst driving with the laptop connected and logging, my VE 2 table got completely messed up, my wideband went to 10 AFR and the engine wouldn't run.
Thankfully I was running on LPG and the table switches automatically to VE 1 when I switch back to petrol, so I drove back on petrol thinking there was a fault in my LPG system.
Only when I go back and started checking the logs did I find that the VE 2 table had messed up completely and the VE in the datalog was showing over 5000%.
Unfortunately this forum says I can not upload the datalog as it is over 2mb even compressed but I have uploaded the Emu file and you can see how messed up the VE 2 table is (only a few minutes earlier the table was fine)
Any opinions would be appreciated.
Edward.

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
Hi we had 3 cars at the track last weekend and new fueling and software seems to be working well, but very much in need of portable logging dongle! will this be available soon??
Also one little thing, can you manually adjust the fueling (+/-) with the trace on?
it just automatically goes to the quick tune function when the trace is turned on and the toggle keys dont respond, it would be nice to manually adjust the fuel following the trace. The quick tune function tends to be a little unstable with so many fuel table cells so close together, the trace does not sit on the center of one very often.
Is going to be possible to add and remove rows and columns on the fuel and IG tables one day?
thanks
ps i was only using version 1.011 at that time

Re: Bugs and Feature reqests
We have found affordable serial log dongle (4GB). Now we are adding it support to EMU. Should be available soon.
It will be not possible to change tables size due to EMU data structures design.
I will check tuning in "Follow cursor mode". It should work.
