Help with EMU on 2JZ

Post by Josh42 » Fri Sep 12, 2014 7:25 pm

Hi,
I have a mkiv supra fitted with a 2JZ-GE which has been converted to run a Borg Warner S360.

I was running a EMU standalone and suffered bottom end failure due to ignition timing advance.

I've been told that there is no Failsafe built into the EMU to prevent timing advance?

Is this correct?
Thanks
Josh

Hi Josh!

What do you exactly mean ?

The only one possible protection for wrong timing is correctly set up Knock sensor...

This is tipicaly. Everytime someone fails while tuning car, the problem is on ECU.

NO! EMU is great ECU and has many safety features! (you need just use them)

2JZ-GE converted to Turbo ? I have read many times some shit on USA forums like "you can run more than 7PSI" etc.......... Yah thats true, but only in case you are running stock N/A ECU. And this same shit can happen if someone put 2JZ-GTE Ignition map into the GE engine without asking about CR. CR 8,5:1 or 11:1 makes big difference in timming advance.

Iv been running the EcuMaster on many Supras, the tuner has been a bit *frisky* with ignition timing and nothing else. Its his responsibility to make shure your engine doesn´t detonate under any circumstances and delivers power and reliability. Thats his job.

Just had word that 3 other supra's in the UK fitted with the EMU have also suffered bottom end failure.
Supra's are just not know to suffer bottom end issues, especially at the power levels we were all using.

One of the engines which has failed had ran an Emanage ultimate for 5000 miles prior to the EMU being installed. Within 100 miles, it died.

I can load a copy of my map/send it to anyone who wishes to look over it?

Symptoms for all of us have been a horrendous misfire(like no miss I've ever experienced, the engine felt like it was stalling and restarting).

Please send us a tables and log files.

there are lot of 1jz and 2jz engines on EMU with power up to 1000Hp with no engine problems.

I think that base timming could be wrong set up.

i really want to see that file and pics, i have mounted on 6 700+hp 2j and also 2 600+hp 1j

the biggest problem with bottom end failure is the tuning... it is always easy to blame the ecu.

The easiest way is to zip emu project and log file and put here as attachment.
pictures add as atachment

Will pull file now and upload. Please give me 15 mins.

I don't have photos of the tops of the pistons currently, although from what I could see there were no signs of det.

Just seems too coincidental that other engines have suffered identical failures, especially as one was a proven engine.
Not necessarily blaming the ECU, fully aware it could be a mapper fault.

Want your help, not to point fingers.

If there were no detonation signs on the pistons, the reaseon must be different than wrong ignition angle.

What was the failure ? Bearings, piston crowns, etc ?

Seems to be wrongfull trigger setup/wiring of the trigger. Falling/rising.
It can also have something to do with your triggersensors.

2JZ-GE compression is 10.5:1

I was using the GTE gasket

stock GTE compression is 8.5:1

so im somewhere inbetween.

failure on all is big end bearing failure

here is the map file:
