Unable to start engine after upgrading firmware, downgrade?

Post by diracdeltafunct » Sat Jun 06, 2015 11:59 pm

How do I downgrade from 1.1 RC1 to 1.016?

I upgraded from 1.016 to 1.1 RC1. The firmware upgrade itself was a success. However, after performing the update, I am no longer able to start the engine. This is a quite big upgrade, is the 1.1 RC1 version of the firmware able to even use directly fuel maps created for 1.016? I reviewed the changelog, and it doesn't appear to mention this shouldn't work, except for the possibility of needing to retune the knock sensor. But there is no fuel cut going on when I'm cranking, so I doubt this is the problem.

The 1.1 RC1 client does not allow me to downgrade. The 1.016 client doesn't want to even start when it detects there is a more recent firmware on the ECU.

If I cannot downgrade to 1.016 once upgraded to 1.1 RC1, then what is the oldest firmware I can downgrade to, and where do I get this firmware?

This is what it looks like when I try to start the engine:

What engine do you have ? The firmware is quite compatible. There are only some exception when the config need to be modified according to firmware upgrade (eg. for 2JZ VVTi).

This is a 3S-GTE.

I've meticulously compared the logs from when my engine was starting and running fine on previous firmware with the new one.

My findings are that injectors were pulsed for 7.34 ms when the engine was cold, and 4.42 when the engine was started warm. Now, with approximately the same ambient temperature as before (perhaps 5 degrees C higher ambient temperature, I imagine that is not significant?), they are pulsed for only 6.61 ms. Perhaps this means I'm running the engine lean?

Project file: http://www.filedropper.com/tachofixedcleanup
(obviously, do not use on your car, may destroy components, hydrolock engine, corrupt ECU, break engine and cause other problems)
Log file (failed attempt at starting the engine using the same project file): http://www.filedropper.com/failtostart

Edit: Note that my setup does not use the IAT at all, it simply uses the fail-safe value.

Hi!

The log file is not valid format.
Please attach it via forum (using upload atachment option)

Sorry about that, I didn't notice the upload attachment feature. They should be in the correct format though. I can open these with the 1.1 RC1 client. But here they are attached using the upload attachment feature.
tacho_fixed_cleanup.emu
Map made originally by a professional tuner on version 1.016, small adjustments made by myself to correct the tachometer. Saved again later using version 1.1 RC1.

fail_to_start.emulog
Log of attempting to start the engine when it is cold. Ambient temperature is probably 10-15 degrees C.

The log looks correct. Is there a spark ? Does your fuel pump work ?

The engine now works. The issue was unrelated to the firmware. By coincidence the plugs decided to stop working just as I upgraded the firmware. By changing the plugs, the engine works fine.

During firmware update it is needed to disconnected the plugs and the injectors!
