2JZ FRS install question
So I got a really good deal on a 2014 FRS, and I know that the 2JZ will fit as some of the drivers of formula D have done so. my question to you gurus is:
What wires do I need to send into the stock harness to run a dual ECU setup? stock ECU to retain gauge cluster ABS and anything else that's controlled by it and EMU to control the engine. Im thinking I will just need a crank input, coolant temp, and some power and grounds.
Any help will be appreciated as this swap has not yet been documented to the public.
Thanks,
kyle

Re: 2JZ FRS install question
that will be very difficult being 4cyl to 6cyl, near impossible to create all the signals required to keep the original ECU operating.
Now i could be wrong but its likely you can run everything you need directly from the EMU using CAN BUS for the dash and tracking down signal wires directly etc

Re: 2JZ FRS install question
Hmmmm I didn't think of using the can bus. has anyone done something similar?
any more suggestions?

Re: 2JZ FRS install question
I dont know if its the simalar but i am running both an is200 ecu and the emu as you described with just the emu to control the engine and is200 to do everything else. The emu provides speedo and rpm, but is200 does all the car functions like abs, security etc. I may have to duplicate coolant signals or run 2 sensors but they both seem to run side by side.

Awesome, could you provide a bit more info on how you went about doing the dual ECU? what wirers did you run into the stock ecu?
Thanks,
Kyle

Re: 2JZ FRS install question
I have read that the EMU has a feature or can be set to read a sensor thats being read by the other ecu. I read it somewhere in the manual and thought it would come in handy.
So far the is200 ecu is connected to the original car harness with no mods to the wiring. The EMU is connected to everything on the engine. I have run power and ground to both ecu's. Once the car is running I will add or duplicate the sensors the is200 ecu which it will need to get the instrument panel working. The EMU will provide output signals for speedo and rpm although i have connected them up, im not sure how well they will work etc.
It seems also the EMU can output just about anything from the engine to the instrument cluster through output aux's.
I hope this helps, it was a fair bit of effort stripping the is200 loom and following every single wire back to each sensor and follow wiring diagrams.
If you need any more info i will try and help

Re: 2JZ FRS install question
Stock BRZ engine uses 4 variable cams, DBW, 4 pistons, stock ecu uses Canbus .... so how the hell would you get it work ? Stock ecu will show 30 errors, and will not work normal.
Only way will be reverse engeneering of the can bus in this car, an simulate it with some standalone PC like arduino, rasbery or something like that.

Re: 2JZ FRS install question
So ive talked to tweak'd performance, they make a harness that utilizes the stock ECU and the EMU (or similar standalone) but they don't mention how to do it exactly. They don't want to give away their secrets for free, I did talk to them a bit and they said its as simple as running a few sensors from the engine into the stock ecu and that's about it. So I know its possible, im just trying to figure out if I want to tackle the headache myself or sell my milspec harness and buy their plug and play one.
Re: 2JZ FRS install question
There is Motec M1 plug and play on the market and it completly replaces stock ecu (costs huge money ammount, may be like 8-10EMU units). Everything works with that, but it is for the ctock subaru engine. I can imagine, that you doesnt need the stock ecu for getting all other things to work. What do you need, is the correct Can bus comunication from EMu to the rest of the car components.2J-240 wrote:So ive talked to tweak'd performance, they make a harness that utilizes the stock ECU and the EMU (or similar standalone) but they don't mention how to do it exactly. Re: 2JZ FRS install question
Just talked to a few people and I think I may have a solution. I can't say as of just yet BC this hasn't been released to the public, but I will update this thread accordingly once u get the go ahead.
Re: 2JZ FRS install question
Keeping the stock ecu is all very well if your running the stock engine but since you are planning to change engine then it will be near impossible, as i mentioned most dash clusters run off the CAN bus these days so if we can get that supported it might be possible. As for things like the ABS and security i think they might be a little more complex.
