hi, i am new to using an ecu master and am currently planning my wiring loom. jza80 supra 2jzgte
i had a question about my coil packs. from what i understand i can run them with or without using the igniter, i was also going to wire in a hks amplifiier.
what do you guys think is the best route for me giving the most spark power.

coils should already have +12v power supply from the factory harness on one of the pins just connect the other pin directly to each ignition OP on the EMU
sometimes its better to run a new power supply using a fused relay directly from the battery instead of relying on the factory wiring.

we just did a supra a couple weeks back and we could not go over about 24 psi without high boost missfires no matter what we did, so we ended up going to a CDI and now we can run any boost we want and it is very strong with no missfires. So if you are aiming for 1000hp it might be something to consider

i think fuel quality has a lot to do with this!
what sort of ignition timng do you get?? the lower it has to be the problem seem to be worse.

We run e85 so i have a lot of ignition advance on the 2jz. On poor fuel and low ignition timing you have to be exactly on mbt on most engines to keep it from missfiring.RHD wrote:i think fuel quality has a lot to do with this!

yes that would make sense, with the poor fuel quality we are often operating at timing that is knock dependent, so in many cases this will be well before the MBT point

RHD, If You have misses with stock 2JZ coils wired directly to EMU without stock ignitor, then i think You have bad coils. But as You said CDI fixed problem, strange...
I have had bad set of coils on my co-worker 2JZ, so installed VAG coils and no more misses.
With CDI i have done 1100+hp on stock coils even in wastespark.

what cdi unit did you use? and does any body know where i can purchase new connector pins from. as the connectors i bought new from toyota come without connectors and the connectors they have are all already crimped to wires and i dont want to solder any wires.

Samvel, we tried both with and without the factory igniter with little difference, we built our own inter-connector and using all the factory wiring so it is quite possible the supply voltage to the coils was not strong for what ever reason.
Boostedkane, In my opinion M&W make the best CDI ignitions we used the Pro 16b which is a 6 channel street application unit. I like CDI's and I even run an msd on my non turbo race engine its just nice to have an engine that always starts and runs well and never missfires... ever! I have heard claims of quite large power gains too but we have yet to do any real back to back testing on that subject.
On the Supra we mostly maintained the factory wiring but we cut and extracted the 3 power wires that normally power the coils and connected them to the CDI as earth wires. Then by positioning the CDI in place of the factory igniter all the other wires could be re-connected pretty much as they were. This means the coils are now connected in reverse but if you read the M&W instructions they actually recommend this in any case!
