Hey Guys Im having a problem getting my Cam/Trigger to sync. I have checked wiring, both wires are shielded and grounded at one end.
Trigger:
VR Sensor
Toothed wheel 2 missing teeth
Edge- Falling
CYL-6
Teeth-36
T angle-63
Secondary Trigger:
VR Sensor
2jz vvt 3 Teeth
Edge Falling
I have scoped the Signal wires and verified I am getting a signal but it does not Sync?
Hopefully someone can help I am out of ideas

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
This works for me.
The question is, how is your firing order, but it does not matter on "SYNC" status.
Check you battery and EMU voltage by starting

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
Basicly if your setup has good "layout" and has wrong offest (you are away from TDC) it must still sync.
So VR sensors both, both falling edge. Toothed wheel 2 missing teeth / 2jz vvt 3 Teeth .... must sync. If ynot, look for hardware/wirring issue.
I have seen on my custommers car, he was doing something on alternator, and it maked huge noise on +12V, so the EMU was thinking that the engine is turning all the time.

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4
I had done some reading I had done in the manual and on the forum, and from what I understood it has to sync before it will deliver fuel and spark?
That's why im chasing this Sync problem
I am getting neither spark or fuel. I have looked at the wiring ,all wires are in the correct pin and checked it over with a ohm meter to make sure there are no open wires , Thinking there may be something wrong with the coils as to no spark I had pulled them and put them on the bench ,the bench test went fine I get a crisp blue spark when the coils are on the bench. According to the meter im getting power to coils and the injectors W/ ignition and the Ignition log shows Executed spark count that climbs but I still have no spark? or a smell of fuel.... Im wondering if I have something wrong in the Tune File?
The coils are Denso LS1 coils and injectors are Precision turbo 1000cc W/ a resister pack. The closest Tuner to me is about 4 hours away and they only use HP Tuners so I don't really have anyone to ask or get a second opinion what the problem could be...... This is the Tune File I attempted to start the car using with no success.... see if you guys can see what I have wrong

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
Without "SYNC" you dont get spark and injection .....thats normal.
I dont think you have something wrong on CAM,CRANK sensor..... your scope looks good. Did you used correctly ground for shielding , and sensor ground for sensor?
Focus just on the "SYNC" status .... after getting SYNC you can follow, without not.
Basicly, if everything is wrong, everything not connected, you can just use this two sensors, CAM, CRANK and you should see "SYNCED" status..... it deppends on nothing else.
After you are synced, you can start to find TDC and other things....

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
The wires are 2 conductor foil jacket shielded in there own insulation the shield is grounded to (B17)EMU ground at one end and the Negative of the VR sensor is connected to Sensor ground (B18) roughly 4 inch away from the EMU connector ...I tried to keep it shielded as far as I could......
Well thought id try something just to see..... I switched the battery out with one that has an output of 183 Amps and I noticed my Crank Rpm went from 140-150ish to 170+ RPM... I know this sounds silly but I may have not been getting the engine to spin fast enough with that other battery for it to sync.. I took another log of the Crank and pulled up the "Trigger Sync Status" and it synchronized! right around 10-40 sec.
So that's some good news!!! But the bad is I still have no spark or Fuel!?!?!?!
I have no idea what can be causing this I've never had a problem like this?
I know the injectors have to be working you can feel the Prime Pulse if you have your finger on an injector and you power the EMU ??
It has to be something simple

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
I see in your config, that you dont have assigned output for MAIN relay .... WHY ?
Stock 2JZ-VVTi is using ignitor and stupid coils, but in Wastespark mode ...... what do you use for coils ?
How do you know you dont have spark ? EMU thinks it has executed sparks ... look into the log and displa "executed sparks count"
may be 12ms on start can be too much.... Do you smell gas ?

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
The main relay?!?!?!?!? ...Yeah that probably does seem dumb haha.... emu ignition , coils ,and injectors are on toggles ,Sorry should have said that...
but I know for a fact that everything is getting power.
Coils are: Denso LS1 coils (built in transistor) in full sequential. There 4 pin (+12 ign,+5vTrigger,protected ground, Chases ground) I Re-Rechecked the wiring when I bench tested them so Im pretty certain that's right
I had watched the Ignition log under and I had seen the Spark Count rise when cranking but weirdly it did that when it was "synchronizing" before it actually synced and I am checking for spark by cranking the engine with the plug pulled in a plug clip clamped to the head
I am getting fuel on the plugs now
but still no spark...

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
I actually had this problem last night! A customer of mine finally had his car wired up 2jzgte VVTi.
We had to switch to RISING instead of falling. EMU software was showing "Synchronizing" but never actually synced. So we swapped it to rising, since we weren't sure what wire went where. It synced and began to sputter finally.
One our map I had to DISABLE "prime pulse" as it was flooding out the injectors as well. So after that we were able to get it going pretty decent.

ihiryu Does your customers Sync right away?
it seems like mine turns over and over and over syncs then I get a sputter a backfire and it almost sounds like its out of time ?
but when It syncs right away it sometimes starts and idles for a second or so you can even rev till it dies so I don't think its out of time.
after that it wont start and seems seems like its flooding
I have my prime pulse at 1ms and cranking is at 3ms
I just want to get this car started ...on the trailer and to the tuner ....they wont mess with it, if it doesn't at least start
Ill post the map and maybe someone can guide me in the direction I need to go to get this thing starting constantly
1000cc Precision turbo Injectors W/resister @43 psi
Ive been through all the fuel tables, maybe I missed something

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
First check your Configured Outputs !!!
Aux 2 is enabled for Fuel Pump an Boost Solenoid this will not work .
Then Ignition Event Output 2 4 1 5 3 6
Injector Phase 3 1 5 2 4 6
Lets make a Test

the configurable outputs are not connected to anything yet.....
and 1-5-3-6-2-4 ? for the ignition events

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
Sorry, I had some issues with wiring on the customer's end. We had to put it back to falling, and he got his wiring fixed up. Everything is working as it should now. It cranks up pretty quick, and syncs pretty fast. Much faster than any AEM Box could.2JZSLOWSTICE wrote:ihiryu Does your customers Sync right away?

Turn off your PRIME PULSE COMPLETELY. You'll dial that down the road, but the last thing you need is to flood the motor.

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
Well I think im ok with the flooding problem, dialed the tables way back and its starting now rough I have to fight with it but it starts ... but it still takes forever to sync like 3-5 seconds of cranking if im lucky.... sometimes it never syncs... ......new question why does it take forever to sync?
is that a sign of improper wiring???
Noise??
Bad connections?
I think if I can get this sync problem fixed ill be ok enough to get it to the tuner

Re: Ignition Sync Probllem 2JZ GTE VVTI
How did you wire up your crank sensor? Did you use the original harness and cut it up, or did you run new wires?
My customer used his OE harness that he cut up. He went all the way to end of the harness, where the shielding ended, and he did not even ground the shielding.
His car syncs pretty quickly. It's definitely not 3-5 seconds, more like two.

What firmware are you running? Can you post a screenshot of the scope log? What RPM do you see while cranking? What's battery voltage resting at with the key on and during cranking?2JZSLOWSTICE wrote:Well I think im ok with the flooding problem, dialed the tables way back and its starting now rough I have to fight with it but it starts ... but it still takes forever to sync like 3-5 seconds of cranking if im lucky.... sometimes it never syncs... ......new question why does it take forever to sync?

Zach,
Frimware is the 1.1Rc1
I will upload the scope data
It seems to sync when it wants .....some times it syncs right away, sometimes it never syncs and cranks and cranks and cranks
The Vr sensors are good the engine started and ran fine on the OEM ecu
Battery Voltage is 12.3-12.9
When Cranking I see 160-170+ RPM and after start I see good RPM
