First connection

Post by Marco » Sun Feb 28, 2016 2:10 pm

Hello,
I´m from Austria and, recently purchased an EMU Ecumaster unit and I´m completely new to standalone ecus :D !
It will take some time till I can really use it, because my BMW E30 M50 Turbo project is missing some parts..

So I just tried to connect it to my PC (Windows 8 with new client and new USB driver from the official homepage) via USB and get an overview.
Unfortunately nothing happened. Not even the sound, of plugging a USB device in, appeared.
Now I heard about a separate power supply I have to apply. But I can´t find anything about that? Also in the manual for me it´s not clear what to do, to get first connection.

I was told to buy a 12V power supply unit (2-5A) and connect the + side with pin 18 and the ground side with pin 17 of the gray plug and the connect it again via USB.
Is that right? And if so, which power supply unit can you recommend?

Sorry for the newbie questions and maybe bad english, I just don´t want to frie my EMU  .

Please help me! :)

If you just want to get to know the software you can use it without conecting to the ecu.
You can build the maps, configure triggers and inputs / outputs, then when wired to the car upload it to the ecu.
If you still want to connect to the ecu it is correct you need to supply it with 12v, a car battery is the perfect power source.

Thanks for the fast response! :)
I'll try it with the battery to see if everything is working :)
